The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) invites the design community to its private screening of the award-winning film A Reckoning in Boston in partnership with the Boston Chapter. The 83-minute film will be followed by a live Q&A with Director James Rutenbeck and producer Kafi Dixon moderated by Dr. Theodore Landsmark, director of the Kitty and Michael Dukakis Center for Urban and Regional Policy at Northeastern University.
Founded in 1899, the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) is the professional association for landscape architects in the United States, representing more than 15,000 members. Landscape architects lead the planning, design, and stewardship of healthy, equitable, safe, and resilient environments. The Society’s mission is to advance landscape architecture through advocacy, communication, education, and fellowship.
As a profession and as an organization, we strive to be representative and reflective of the communities we serve. Unfortunately, the reality has not yet caught up to the ambition. About 18 percent of the U.S. population identifies as Hispanic or Latino, while only 10 percent of landscape architects and 4 percent of ASLA members do the same. About 14 percent of the population identifies as African American, but only 3 percent of landscape architects and just over 1 percent of ASLA members do. Closing the gaps requires concentrated efforts on all sides. ASLA is committed to fostering equity and inclusion within our profession, membership, staff, and leadership. Visit ASLA’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Hub to see some of the work we're doing to make that happen.
We are the Boston Society of Landscape Architects — the Massachusetts and Maine chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
From Portland to Provincetown, Amherst to Augusta to Boston, we connect, convene, and celebrate landscape architects and landscape architecture. We support designers in every stage of career, and advance the creation of extraordinary — resilient, equitable, beautiful — environments throughout the region and the world.
