“Who was this ancestor of mine?” These are the thoughts award-winning filmmaker Alyssa Bolsey had after unearthing a treasure trove of photographs and films belonging to her enigmatic great-grandfather. She was astonished to learn that her great-grandfather’s 1920’s invention, the iconic Bolex movie camera, had revolutionized access to filmmaking, allowing individuals to chronicle their daily lives like WE do today.
Intrigued by this mysterious piece of family history, Alyssa spent fifteen years piecing together the fragments of the forgotten family archive to reveal the epic story of her great-grandfather in the new, critically acclaimed documentary, Beyond the Bolex.
Part genealogical detective story and part exploration of the development of visionary technology, Beyond the Bolex tells a story about persistence in the face of enormous obstacles, and a woman's quest to uncover her great-grandfather's legacy.
Your ticket includes a virtual conversation with Director/Producer Alyssa Bolsey and Mathew Jevotovsky at Photomyne. If you don't receive an email with the link by November 14th please email support@photomyne.com.
