“Women are the first environment...” ~ Katsi Cook, Mohawk Midwife

GIVE LIGHT brings the voices of traditional and indigenous midwives to the maternity care dialogue. In penetrating interviews, midwives from five continents discuss the benefits and challenges to their profession. In their native settings, these compelling women relate their life stories with confidence, humor, and timely messages of faith in the natural capabilities of the women that they attend. (run-time 55 minutes)

The film has been praised by leaders in maternity care for advancing healthcare issues. “Enjoyed your film tremendously. Your work is needed...” (Dr. Gonsoulin, Retired OB)

Maternal mortality rates are rising across all races and ethnicities in the U.S., states with restrictive midwife laws and practices,... were found to have worse outcomes. (Commonwealth fund reports 2023)
