About The Shoah Committee of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa

The mission of the Shoah Committee of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa is to teach the lessons and legacy of the Holocaust, with the intent to promote tolerance, compassion, courage and speak up against racism and injustice.

About the Event

In honor of Holocaust Education Month, the Shoah Committee of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa is partnering with the Greenberg Families Library, and the Adult Education and Cultural Programs of the Soloway Jewish Community Centre, to offer our community a virtual screening of the newly released, powerful documentary, Passage to Sweden. This award-winning documentary captures the adeptness, courage, compassion, and protection that Scandinavian countries and their citizens offered Jewish refugees facing Nazi persecution.

After the film screening, we will host a live conversation, and Q & A with filmmaker Suzannah Warlick and film narrator Chana Sharfstein. In addition, there will be welcoming remarks by the Embassy of Sweden in Ottawa and the Embassy of Israel in Canada

About The Film

Passage To Sweden examines the unique experience of Jews in Scandinavia during the Second World War, where spontaneous and dramatic rescue operations were conducted to save thousands of Jewish lives. Through first-hand accounts and careful research, the film tells an uplifting story of decency, courage, and humanity. It offers moving and inspiring examples of how solidarity with our fellow humans, regardless of differences in faith, is vital to ensuring fundamental human rights for all of us.
