About the Film

Many women speak for the first time about the physical and sexual abuse they endured. They are in jail for crimes like prostitution, theft, embezzlement and drugs. Through this art program they find the confidence and courage to take their next step.

Co-sponsored by BUPEP (Boston University Prison Education Program) and TUPIT (Tufts University Prison Initiative of Tisch College and Tufts Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program

TUPIT and BUPEP provide accredited courses and opportunities for incarcerated men and women in Massachusetts to earn degrees and certificates from these universities.

The Boston University Prison Education Program has been providing post-secondary education to incarcerated women and men for nearly 50 years. We believe that education has the power to elevate, nurture, and transform.

The Tufts University Prison Initiative of Tisch College (TUPIT) brings Tufts faculty and students together with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people, educators, organizers, corrections staff, and scholars of criminal justice to facilitate creative and collaborative responses to the problems of mass incarceration and racial injustice. In partnership with Bunker Hill Community College, TUPIT provides incarcerated people the opportunity to earn an associate’s degree and a bachelor’s degree in Civic Studies from Tufts University while serving time. Extending the visions of Tufts University, Tisch College, and Bunker Hill Community College, TUPIT is dedicated to providing transformative educational experiences that foster student, faculty, and community members’ capacities to become active citizens of change in the world.
