JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES Synopsis - when my husband Changyou, a Stanford-trained cancer researcher and biotech founder, was stricken with terminal cancer, I throw myself into a six-year odyssey to produce our 12-year-old artistically gifted son Perry’s animated film - CHANGYOU’S JOURNEY, unleashing a mother-son tug of war. I must choose to bare my soul to reconnect with my son, reclaim my buried artistic prowess, transforming from a ‘Tiger Mom’ to a ‘Zen Mom’.”

CHANGYOU’S JOURNEY - a young animator Perry Chen who crafted this labor of love to inspire his father during his long battle with cancer and to pay tribute to the life he led, beginning with his childhood in rural China. A story of grief, loss, perseverance, and enduring hope in the darkest times of our lives.

CHANGYOU’S JOURNEY was made during Perry Chen’s coming of age, from 12 to 18, making him the youngest director with an Academy Award-qualified film while still in high school. The film premiered at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival), won multiple national awards including the New York Life Award, National YoungArts Cinematic Arts Finalist Award, Scholastic Art and Writing National Gold Medal, Presidential Scholar in the Arts Semifinalist, and awards at Newport Beach Film Festival, Arizona International Film Festival, Los Angeles Animation Festival, Palm Springs International Animation Festival, and Film Now Festival. It received a Special Commendation from San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, and was supported by over 400 donors.
