This is a FREE virtual screening preview for 2023 NAAAP Speaker Expo VIPs and Director's friends, following the Speaker Expo where biotech CEO-turned two-time Oscar-qualified filmmaker Dr. Zhu Shen is a featured speaker on January 20, 2023. Her speech is titled “From Tiger Mom to Zen Mom.”

The screening includes exclusive scenes of “Journey of a Thousand Miles” documentary feature directed by Dr. Shen and the Oscar-qualified animated short “Changyou’s Journey” produced by Dr. Shen, directed by her young son Perry Chen. Both films are discussed in Dr. Shen’s NAAAP Speaker Expo speech about her transformation as a parent and serve as a thought-provoking, powerful companion piece to illustrate HOW the mother-son relationship evolved over the years, from control to freedom, creative partners, and unconditional love & connection.

Both films could be included as part of Dr. Shen’s NAAAP speaking event at your corporate functions and events.

NAAAP Speaker Expo VIP can watch the virtual screening from Feb 1 to 8, and are invited to join Dr. Shen for a LIVE virtual Q&A on Zoom to address any questions you may have about her films and speaking at your corporate events on Tuesday Feb 7th at noon PST/3pm EST.

“Journey of a Thousand Miles” has been endorsed by Janet Yang, the legendary JOY LUCK CLUB Executive Producer & President of the Academy of Motion Pictures, who called it “an ode to the bond between mother and son, told with radical vulnerability and honesty," and “a deeply moving look into the love that binds a family." Early private screenings have sparked engaging conversations among attendees, and later among attendees’ family members about parent-child relationships.

JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES Synopsis - when Zhu Shen’s husband Changyou, a Stanford-trained cancer researcher and biotech founder, was stricken with terminal cancer, she throws herself into a six-year odyssey to produce their 12-year-old artistically gifted son Perry’s animated film - CHANGYOU’S JOURNEY, unleashing a mother-son tug of war. Zhu must choose to bare her soul to reconnect with her son, reclaim her buried artistic prowess, transforming from a ‘Tiger Mom’ to a ‘Zen Mom’.”

CHANGYOU’S JOURNEY - a young animator Perry Chen who crafted this labor of love to inspire his father during his long battle with cancer and to pay tribute to the life he led, beginning with his childhood in rural China. A story of grief, loss, perseverance, and enduring hope in the darkest times of our lives.

CHANGYOU’S JOURNEY was made during Perry Chen’s coming of age, from 12 to 18, making him the youngest director with an Academy Award-qualified film while still in high school. The film premiered at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival), won multiple national awards including the New York Life Award, National YoungArts Cinematic Arts Finalist Award, Scholastic Art and Writing National Gold Medal, Presidential Scholar in the Arts Semifinalist, and awards at five US Film Festivals.
