'An answer to a prayer, an obvious labour of love, and I think it fair to say that no labour is more deserving of love than Reger's life and work.' (from Gramophone Magazine's review of Maximum Reger)

Fugue State Films, in partnership with Presto Music, presents this first of three online screenings of Maximum Reger.

What you will see in Part 1 (112 minutes):

Documentary (70 minutes):

Part 1 includes a 70-minute documentary about Max Reger’s rural background and youth, his early mental-breakdown and his first great outpouring of composition as a young man.

Fantasie Caracteristique (1889) played by the Hyperion Trio

Die Nixe (Op.62x) sung by Frauke May

About Maximum Reger:

Maximum Reger is one of the most far-reaching classical music film projects ever made. An enormous set of 58 films, it includes three feature length documentaries, plus filmed performances of dozens of Reger's greatest compositions. With a total running time of fifteen hours, Maximum Reger redefines the misunderstood romantic-modernist Max Reger and places him as one of the great composers of his and any age.

These three Show and Tell events present the three documentaries, each followed by a selection of the best musical performances, to form three two-hour programmes. Maximum Reger won 'Best DVD' in the BBC Music Magazine Awards, and garnered exceptional reviews around the world. As the Classical Music Sentinel wrote: 'This comprehensive and fascinating documentary/musical performance film about Max Reger's life and music has been a revelation to me. It has opened my ears and mind to this misunderstood giant of composition.'
