Daniel Moult goes on an odyssey to discover the history and culture of the pipe organ in England. Visiting dozens of locations and thirty-three pipe organs, interviewing experts and performing scores of pieces from the Tudor period to the 21st century, this is a history of England from the perspective of its grandest musical instrument. In Part 1 Dan starts with the story of England's oldest organ, and by the film's finish has reached the mighty Willis organ at St George's Hall, Liverpool. Parts 2 and 3 will follow, and explore the Vistorian and Modern periods.
