BEYOND YELLOWFACE spotlights Phil Chan and Georgina Pazcoguin, two bold dancers of Asian descent who are challenging the dance world to rid ballet of offensive Asian stereotypes, including dancing in yellowface.
They're working to make ballet more inclusive to dancers and choreographers of color.
What’s yellowface? It’s like blackface, and it’s shorthand for the limiting, cringe-worthy, and often offensive portrayals of Asians in the performing arts and popular culture.
Phil and Georgina are asking the ballet world, can’t we do better? Can't we move away from caricatures to characters?
